Monday 9 February 2009

Well another big driving day finished - today we were travelling across the Transkei which is huge and very hot. Got up as hot as 35 degrees today and low as 27 degrees. The heat really saps you out here as there is just no wind and it is also getting rather sticky as well as they are all expecting rain shortly (can't come soon enough they all say)!

So we are staying just outside Port Shepstone in a campsite which is on another river, not quite as nice as the last camp, but still very nice. No animals around like the last one. We had Nyala, peacocks, ostrich, bunnies, fallow deer and ibis all visit last night or this morning before we left and we heard the lions for alot of the night last night which was really cool.

Tomorrow we are hoping to catch up with a friend in Howick (Kirsty), we were travelling around Kwazulu Natal with her last year. Hopefully we can have lunch and see how she is going. Then we will carry on up into the Drakensburg mountains for a couple of days.

Well hope you are all well, Mum I put my washing into a busket with washing liquid, water and then put on the lid and let them wash themselves on the way between places - pull them out at the other end and they are done.

Love and hugs to you all xxx

Happy memories - Julie and I crossed that little suspension bridge in 1984!
God it sounds hot - thank goodness for air-con. That's not a problem we have at the moment - due another hit of snow tonight in the midlands - all Frushers have had terrific toboganning fun but no ostrich or lions seen this week.

Hi there, I don't think I did this right so sorry if it has gone on twice. I have only just managed to read blog since we got back from Opito - you guys have been busy!!! Exciting to read about your travels and reminesce about some places we have been too also. We are also in the heat over here - last night we had 100% humidity also which wasn't pleasant. Keep having a ball and stay safe. Love the Coopers xxxxx

Hi There, good to hear where you have been and what you've been up to. Like Mum said its been all doom and gloom in Australia at the moment up north near Cairns at Ingham they have had terrible floods, and just cleaned up after them and then they had king tides and more rain and more floods its awful. Now over the weekend there were massive bush fires down in Melbourne and about 800 homes were completely distroyed and burnt to the ground and already 188 people have been confirmed dead most of them burnt to death in their homes or found dead in their cars trying to flee the fires. Also a huge amount of animals in the bush have been killed. Its been the biggest and worst bush fire in Australias history, the govt has set up a bushfire appeal and a flood appeal, and people have been pouring into the bank to donate, so fair the bushfire appeal is up to 25 million, these people have nothing left, they have sent the army in to set up tents for them to stay in and everyone is donating clothing, shoes, blankets, mattresses, toiletries etc alot of them have burnt hands and feet and re recoping in hospital its just so sad. Some small towns have been just wiped off the map now everything is burnt and gone. There was photo in yesterdays paper with a SES worker holding a Koala and feeding it some water from his water bottle its was a wild Koala just dazzed by what had happened, they had 100klm winds and fires just ripped thru anything in its path.
Well, I must go now keep in touch and have a great trip. Love Ken, Kerri, Shayne and Adam. xxxx
